Karolina Wigura

Historian of ideas, sociologist

Karolina Wigura is a historian of ideas, sociologist, and journalist. She is a member of the board of the Kultura Liberalna foundation, which publishes the Kultura Liberalna weekly, Poland’s leading online political and cultural weekly. She is assistant professor at Warsaw University's Faculty of Sociology and associate researcher at the Oxford School for Global and Area Studies. She is a senior fellow at Zentrum Liberale Moderne in Berlin. In 2008, she received the Grand Press award for her interview with Jürgen Habermas. Her books include “The Guilt of Nations: Forgiveness as a Political Strategy” (2011) and “Philosophical Sources of Contemporary Thinking of Emotions” (2019) – both in Polish. In 2022, she co-authored the book “Polish atheist vs. Polish Catholic”, which was a bestseller in Poland. She is currently preparing, together with Jarosław Kuisz, a book on the impact of the war in Ukraine on Central and Eastern Europe. Her latest book, about her personal struggle with endometriosis, ‘Endo. The Art of Accepting Illness’, was published in September 2025.
