Historian

Taras Nazaruk is a historian and digital archivist who leads Digital History projects at the Center for Urban History in Lviv. He leads the Telegram Archive of the War, a project which he initiated in 2022, preserving social media content across more than 2,700 channels, totaling 28 TB of data. This project forms the core of his PhD research at the University of Hagen, focusing on “Digital Histories of Violence in the 21st Century”. From 2016 to 2024, Nazaruk coordinated the Lviv Interactive platform, a digital encyclopedia exploring the history of Lviv through spatial storytelling. He studied journalism at the Ivan Franko University of Lviv, and communication design at the University of Wrocław. He also undertook studies in cultural anthropology and social media at Masaryk University in Brno.His research spans social media archiving practices, the history of Soviet cybernetics and early computer networks, digital humanities, and the ethics of preserving ephemeral digital communications as historical evidence.
