Mischa Gabowitsch

Historian, sociologist

Mischa Gabowitsch is a historian, sociologist and professor of Multilingual and transnational post-Soviet studies at the University of Mainz in Germany. He teaches at the university’s Germersheim campus, where he heads the Russian department in Translation, linguistics, and cultural studies. His main research interests are: protest and social movements, commemorative practices, war memorials and military cemeteries, and more broadly, questions of memory and temporality. With Mykola Homanyuk he co-authored the book Monuments and Territory: War Memorials in Russian-Occupied Ukraine, published in 2024 by CEU Press.
