Anne Dastakian
Journalist
Anne Dastakian is a French journalist of Armenian origin. Her father came from a family of Karabakh Armenians, who fled Baku in 1920 to Romania and finally France. Their destinies were marked by pogroms, the flight from communism and the Gulag experience. In the late 1970s, Anne began studying philosophy at the Sorbonne in Paris. In 1980, she completed a fellowship in Bohemian Studies in Prague, forging profound friendships with people from artistic and dissident circles. She experienced the 1989 Velvet Revolution as a correspondent in Prague, working for Reuters and the Agence France Presse news agency. Since 1997 she has been a foreign news reporter at the French weekly Marianne. She covers geopolitics and international affairs, with a focus on Central and Eastern Europe. In 2014, she covered the Maidan in Kyiv. She was reporting in the Kharkiv region when the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine started in 2022.
