Michael Holtz is a writer and freelance journalist based in Lviv. He’s primarily interested in telling individual stories of people who have been affected by Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. He’s written for The New Yorker, The Atlantic, and Harper’s, among other publications. From 2016 to 2018, he was the Beijing bureau chief for The Christian Science Monitor. He previously worked for The Chicago Tribune and The Associated Press. His work has been supported by grants from the Pulitzer Center, the Fund for Investigative Journalism, and the International Reporting Project. He was born and raised in the United States.
