Simone Toji
Anthropologist
Simone Toji is an anthropologist with a focus on human mobility, urban studies, ethnography, and cultural heritage. She holds a PhD in social anthropology from the university of St Andrews, UK, and a master’s degree in sociology and anthropology from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She was a Newton International Fellow at the Urban Institute, University of Sheffield, UK, and a research fellow at the Maria Sibylla Merian Centre Conviviality-Inequality in Latin America, Brazil. Her publications include a book, The Immensity of Being Singular: Approaching Migrants’ Lives Through Resonance in São Paulo (2023), and journal articles and book chapters on topics such as migration in Latin America, urban life in São Paulo, cultural heritage governance, and ethnographic methodology. She has also engaged in outreach activities, including creative writing and reports related to cultural heritage policies.
